 次の英文を読んで、後の設問に答えなさい。

Love generally means a feeling of strong afection for another person. We can feel it towards our family, friends, and perhaps most importantly, we can fall romantically in love with a boyfriend or girlfriend. So why does “love” mean “no score” or “zero” in tennis?

It is said that the game of tennis originated in northern France in the 12th century, but the ball was then hit by the palm* of one’s hand. The word for “tennis” came into use in the English language in the mid-13th century from Old French. The original French word, tenez, can be translated into English as “take it,” “play” or “receive.” The server would call out that word to the other player meaning they were about to serve.

Of course, no score is “zero.” But French people thought that the shape of zero, “0,” looked like an egg. So, they would not say “zero” for a score of zero, but would instead say the French word “egg,” l’oeuf, to announce “no score.” When the game of tennis crossed the English Channel* to Britain, the French word l’oeuf sounded like “love” to British people. Then, the word l’oeuf was changed into British pronunciation and became “love.” That is why we say, “30-love” to mean “30-0.”
